How to fix document upload issues

This article explains the most common reasons document uploads fail and what you can do to successfully upload your files to the Nestwise dashboard.

Who this article is for

This article is for:

  • Borrowers uploading documents for their Nestwise application

  • Anyone seeing an error message or failed upload

  • People having trouble with file size, format, or device compatibility

How to fix document upload issues

Most upload issues are caused by file size, format, or image quality problems. Here’s how to resolve the most common issues so your documents can be reviewed without delays.

1. Make sure your file is clear and complete

Documents may be rejected if:

  • The image is blurry

  • Part of the page is cut off

  • The text is too small or faint

  • Multiple pages were not included

To resolve this:

  • Retake the photo in good lighting

  • Make sure the entire document is visible

  • Try using your phone’s camera instead of scanning apps

  • If it’s a multi-page file, upload all pages

2. Check the file format

Nestwise accepts:

  • PDF

  • JPG

  • PNG

If your file is in a different format (HEIC, DOCX, etc.), convert it before uploading.

On iPhone:

  • When sharing an image, choose “Save as PDF” or “Most Compatible” for JPG.

On computer:

  • Open the image and export/save as PDF or JPG.

3. Check the file size

Files that are too large may fail to upload.

To fix this:

  • Take a new photo at a normal resolution

  • Use “reduce file size” when exporting a PDF

  • Break large PDFs into multiple files if needed

Aim for files under 10 MB when possible.

4. Use a different device or browser

Some upload issues are device-specific.
Try switching to:

  • Chrome (best performance)

  • Safari

  • Firefox

If you were uploading from a phone, try a computer — or vice versa.

5. Check your internet connection

Weak or unstable internet can interrupt uploads. Try:

  • Moving closer to your router

  • Switching from cellular to Wi-Fi

  • Uploading again after reconnecting

6. Make sure the document type matches the request

If you upload the wrong type of document — for example, bank statements instead of tax returns — the system may not accept it.

Check the request label in your dashboard, then upload the exact document type listed.

7. Try refreshing or signing out and back in

A quick refresh can fix most temporary issues.
If needed, sign out of your dashboard and sign back in before uploading again.

8. Contact support if the issue continues
